Joel Umbaugh

Like many directors, Joel was born.  Ever since then, he has been searching for opportunities to tell great stories in unexpected and original ways.

While studying New Media at Indiana University, Joel co-founded The Film Commune, and later produced and directed Indy Scene TV.  Like a Boy Scout, Joel always leaves things better than he found them. 

He then brought his talents to Road Pictures in Indianapolis as a staff director, where he quickly became a force in the mid-west and found himself working from coast to coast as a commercial and long-form director. 

Joel takes pride in getting the most out of every idea and has always been the one to ask, “why not?” This approach has earned him a terrific reputation and is why some great international brands have tapped him to help tell their stories. 

He is also an accomplished short and feature director and currently has several projects in development.  Joel refuses to be confined to just one form of storytelling.  From music videos to viral, Joel brings a unique perspective to every project he touches. 

And while it may not be common to reference the future in a bio, it’s safe to say that Joel will do his best to make your next project the best.
